Game Project: Overboard
Overboard is a chaotic couch co-op party game. As pirates you and your friends must keep the boat afloat and defend the ship against any terrors the sea throws at you.
My Role: UI developer
My process
As UI Developer on this project my main goal was to create an interesting and unique UI style that stood out from other games. To ensure that the UI would not overscope and cause the project to be incomplete I decided to build all UI functionality first. Basic functionality consisted of the navigation, scene loading and overall UI activation. Proceeding this I created all the UI art before finalising any bugs and adding extras such as the gamepad mouse and loading screen.
Early concepts
The concept on the right was meant to be a small 3D scene with characters walking in the back. When an option is selected, the corresponding panel would flip over the board from the back.
The concept on the left was a simple main menu with buttons and a boat that followed the mouse. The menu was meant to look like a small archipelago.
